Most men go through life under the impression that buying underwear is a simple, 5-minute task. However, they fail to take into account all the possible issues that can arise from buying the wrong underwear and find themselves in a world of discomfort later on. Not only can choosing the wrong underwear lead to extreme levels of discomfort, but in some cases can also cause infection.

Here is a list of 5 common underwear struggles that every man can relate to. If you find yourself facing even 2 or 3 of these issues, you need to change your underwear ASAP.

1) Underwear that’s too tight: Do you find yourself taking one slightly longer step while walking? (Yes, we know what you’re doing) Extremely tight underwear can be very uncomfortable. It can cause you to sweat, chafe, and constantly adjust, which can be very embarrassing. To avoid the discomfort and embarrassment caused by wearing underwear that is too tight, it is essential that you know the right size for you.

2) Chafing: Possibly the most painful and most easily caused underwear issue is chafing. Chafing could very easily occur because of the wrong underwear. Any combination of friction, moisture, and irritating fabric could cause chafing. Underwear that is too loose or too tight, with bulky seams, and complicated designs can also be culprits of chafing. Prolonged rubbing of the fabric on your skin makes your skin sting and causes a red rash. In severe cases, it may also cause swelling, bleeding, or crusting.

3) Waistband woes: Itchy, irritating and unignorable – Ever used these words to describe your underwear? Commonly thought of as just a consequence of wearing underwear, waistband impressions are caused by elastic that is too tight or rough. In some cases, a waistband that is too tight can cause a rash and even bleeding. A waistband that is too loose, however, does not provide adequate support and will need constant adjusting and lifting back up to the intended place. This can be extremely embarrassing at the best of times and downright uncomfortable at the worst of times.

4) Dampness: Commonly caused by fabric that isn’t breathable, most men would say that dampness is the worst of all underwear problems! Plus, Indian weather does men absolutely no favours in this department. The buildup of sweat down there can increase the risk of various bacterial and fungal infections. Using underwear made of light, breathable fabric in combination with an anti-fungal powder goes a long way in helping to minimize the risk of infections caused by dampness. It is also extremely important, especially during the summer, to change underwear as frequently as you can.

5) Loose underwear: Warning! Proceed with caution. While the freedom baggy boxers bring is a massive benefit, they also come with the risk of being a little too free (à la F.R.I.E.N.D.S S03E13 – The man is showing brain). “Showing brain” is massively embarrassing and could land you in some tricky situations. Select and style boxers with the utmost caution. Wearing your baggy boxers or undershorts of any kind is never a good idea. Baggy shorts come with the risk of “showing brain”, and tight shorts that hug your skin may lead your boxers to cause you to chafe. Wearing boxers with trousers or track pants and other loose-fitting bottom wear comes with risks too. Make sure that there are no folds or creases in your boxers before wearing your pants. Folds and creases are not only uncomfortable but are also difficult to get rid of on-the-fly.
